When: June 4th and 5th 2016
Time: 7.30pm (Sat) – 8.30pm (Sun)
Where: The Avenue Theatre, Gippeswyk Avenue, Ipswich.

Join us at The Avenue Theatre for the sights and sounds of non-stop Shakespeare. This is Red Rose Chain’s biggest fundraiser to date featuring 25 hours of continuous Shakespeare in all sorts of guises performed by anyone and everyone – ranging from local people in the community that have a passion for drama, to our own youth theatre members, to West End casts (Les Mis, The Play That Goes Wrong) via video-link, to a VERY special super secret guest appearance, to a ventriloquist, opera socs, our own professional company and many more! And it’s all to raise money for an extremely worthwhile and exciting new story telling project for under 5’s and their families living in and around the Chantry area of Ipswich!

If you don’t fancy doing some Shakespeare yourself but would still like to take part and donate, come on down and watch the madness unfurl!

Either buy a ticket in advance for a specific section of the marathon (minimum donation of £2), or just turn up. When you arrive we will stamp your hand so you can come and go as you please!

Happy 25th Birthday to Red Rose Chain!

Did you know Red Rose Chain’s first official event was a 24 hour Shakespeareathon at the Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich? Neil Morrissey (Men Behaving Badly) featured as well as other professional actors, students and enthusiasts who kept the action going throughout the night. Who knows who might appear this time! It seems only right to re-create the event 25 years later and that’s where you come in.

Think swaggering sketches, silly songs and daft dance routines. Cue cross-dressing, mistaken identities, sword play, theatrical ghosts, kings, queens, rude mechanicals and exits pursued by a bear!

What are we fundraising for?

We are fundraising to create a brand new creative story telling project for under 5’s and their families in Chantry and surrounding areas. Designed to give parents the tools and encouragement to read to their children and have the confidence to bring stories alive, laying the groundwork for a child’s later social, communication and interpersonal skills. Through sponsorship you can make a really big difference to local lives in your local community.

Take part

Decide on a piece or extract you want to perform from any of the 37 plays and 154 sonnets by the brilliant bard. This can be anything from 1 minute to 30 minutes. You can perform this on your own, with your friends, your group, your colleagues or maybe even your dog. No animals were harmed in the making of this sentence…

All you have to do is ask people to sponsor you for this big feat of a Shakespeare feast. The minimum donation amount to take part is only £10. Or 10 sovereigns if that’s the way you roll.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to take part in the entire 25 hours, unless you want to. You will be given a choice of time and allocated a slot. So if you’ve ever fancied playing 6th Citizen in Coriolanus at eight o’clock in the evening or 2nd Pirate in Pericles at half past one in the morning – now is your chance.

We are also looking for twenty five companies to donate £100 to sponsor an hour of our 25 hour Shakespeareathon. If you would be interested in donating as a company please get in touch with for more information.
