Some Place Better

“A visceral, moving and brave piece. Intense as it was, there were beautiful moments of lightness and ultimately a sense of hope. The staging was genius; the writing is pitch perfect.”

Where is ‘Home’ to you?

Written by Joanna Carrick and Charlotte Jenkins, and commissioned and funded by Suffolk County Council, ‘Some Place Better’ is a fictional play based on the deeply personal diary Charlotte kept during her time spent growing up in the care system. The play explores the hopeful highs, confusing lows, teenage rebellion and everything in-between. Red Rose Chain has developed the show at The Avenue Theatre over the last year. Charlotte and Jo worked together to develop the script, turning Charlotte’s no-holds-barred writing into a truly unforgettable theatre experience for others to learn from and be inspired by.

The play above all things is about hope, a porch light at the end of the tunnel. Charlotte’s tenacity of spirit is what guides her on to seek a better life, and there are plenty of laughs to be had even in the darker moments. The play stars Emma Swan and Fizz Waller, fresh from ‘As You Like It’. ‘Some Place Better’ is a wonderful, heartfelt and vulnerable look at the care system from the inside looking out – Charlotte’s story is one that demands to be told and we would love for you to be there.
